In Ferro Veritas

In Steel there is Truth

In Ferro Veritas is a saying that comes from sword fighters of old. When training and practicing your sword fighting skills one needs a training partner. And needless to say if you practice with real live blades then either you, your training partner, or both of you, won’t last long. So to train as safely yet realistically as possible wooden swords are often used to simulate the real thing. A problem with this is that it is easy to forget that the little tap you just felt on your finger was painful with a wooden sword. With a real sword it would have severed your finger.

With a wooden sword it is easy to develop training scars. A move or a side-step or a certain cut may work just fine with your wooden replica. But that same move or cut might get you killed were they live blades you were using.

So despite whatever bad habits or incorrect ideas you may have picked up while practicing, when live blades are drawn, and the intention is to kill, you will learn the truth of the situation. In steel, you learn the truth of the thing.

Hence the saying:

In Steel there is Truth

We are not here to create  or perpetuate training scars, we are here to teach what works in steel, and to keep learning what works in steel.
